The Pupil Development Grant (PDG) is a grant given to schools in Wales to help children and young people achieve their full potential. The grant is for children aged 5 to 15 who are from low-income households or who are care-experienced. The PDG can be used for a range of areas, including:
  • High-quality learning and teaching
  • Community focused schools
  • Early childhood play, learning, and care
  • Emotional and social wellbeing
  • Physical development
  • Speech, language, and communication

The PDG is intended to help children overcome barriers that may prevent them from reaching their academic potential. It can be used to buy school uniforms, equipment, and sports kits, and for activities outside of school. Schools are expected to use the funding to implement sustainable strategies and make changes for learners.

The school receives funding every year in the form of The Pupil Deprivation Grant (PDG) which for the academic year 2024-25, the allocation for Ysgol Bryn Collen is £23,000.

This funding will support pupils in the development of early literacy and numeracy skills, through the use of teaching assistants who will provide interventions to support pupils over time.
